About Colleen

Hello, I’m Colleen!

I am a holistic nutrition and lifestyle coach, and an exercise specialist. I began my journey in the health and wellness world over 13 years ago as a personal fitness trainer and athlete. Unfortunately, I saw and experienced the toxic side of the fitness industry where unobtainable ideals, diet culture, and unhealthy relationships with food were frequently idolized. While I love fitness, the gym, and all forms of physical activity, I felt a draw to help others through more rehabilitative services.

After obtaining my bachelors in Kinesiology, I transitioned my career and began working as a physical therapy technician and exercise physiologist for nearly 9 years. One facet of healthcare that I found to be truly lacking was the connection between nutrition, physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing, and healing. I truly believe that food is our best medicine! We can optimize and help to heal body, mind, and spirit through our relationship with food.

This epiphany, along with my own personal health struggles with hormonal dysfunction, led me back to school once again where I received my Masters of Science in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine. Through this program I studied root causes of disease, dysfunction, and unwellness, clinical biochemistry, hormone imbalances, environmental health impacts, mindfulness-based practices, and holistic approaches to healing.

From living in the Sierra Nevada’s in Northern California to the base of Haleakala in Maui to the Topa Topa Mountains in Ojai, I have always found myself drawn to the mountains. I created Mountain Thyme Health & Wellness to honor the healing power that both food and nature can provide!

My Approach

I believe holistic nutrition should be enjoyable, educational, obtainable, and sustainable. Meaning, we should enjoy the foods that heal us, we should learn how these foods support us, set obtainable goals, and find sustainable solutions that provide long term wellness outcomes. I utilize evidence-based nutrition strategies and insights to develop diet and lifestyle recommendations that incorporate nutrient dense, colorful, whole foods.

I also utilize physical activity, nature, mindfulness based strategies, and stress management to optimize overall well-being and outcomes.

Coaching you along your journey, keeping you accountable, empowering you, and providing continued support is just another facet of my approach.
